My
work in clay is fun, functional and designed to make people smile. To
achieve this whimsical look I use earthenware clay. Though at times
I wish I had little elves helping in my studio, each piece is hand built
or thrown on the potter’s wheel by me. All pieces require additional
steps after their initial forming. After forming & manipulating the
clay each piece must be thoroughly dried. Painting with under glazes &
glazes is where the personality of each pot comes alive. An
electric kiln is used to fire everything to cone 04 or about 1945 degrees. Often
this process is repeated again for a layering of colors. Some of my
work must be coated with a clear glaze and fired again to make them food
safe. This is another time those elves would come in handy. |

My new “batik” line is a slightly more
serious look for me. I use a glaze & wax resist process . |

| When I first started working in clay 25
years ago my children were small. Seeing things through their eyes, the
world took on a more whimsical look. I try to retain that sense of fun
in my work today. |
